The South American Union
The IUCN Global Secretariat established the Office Regional Sudamericana (IUCN-South), in Quito in October 1991 at the invitation of the Government of Ecuador. In the years its functions have been aimed at strengthening the technical capacities of its membership, expand its sphere of influence in decision making and exchange information and experiences on conservation issues. IUCN-South has worked with organizational members, about 100, and specialist commissions, about 1,000, in implementing a work program that meets the needs of the region and environmental issues global.Para office Regionally, the combination of loss of biodiversity with inequity shows the urgency to act in the region in a more coordinated and systemic.
IUCN 2009-2012 Programme strengthens the heart of the work of the Union story to conservation of biodiversity as the basis for developing more effective and strategic interventions linked to the global sustainability agenda in the areas of climate change, energy , poverty and security, the economy and markets. Conserving biodiversity, therefore, remains the focus of efforts of the Union, but we must also address the links between biodiversity loss and the key causes that underlie it.
They are identified in four areas of Programme:
Mitigating climate change: Integrating the considerations and opportunities for biodiversity in the policies and practices relating to climate change.
natural energizing the Future: Implementing environmentally sustainable energy systems, equitable and efficient.
Managing ecosystems for human welfare: improving livelihoods, reducing poverty and vulnerability and improving environmental and human security through sustainable management of ecosystems.
achieve a green global economy: Integrate the conservation values \u200b\u200bof ecosystems in economic policy, finance and markets.
